Program for April 21, 2017

Our recitalist this week is Katie Burk, a student at Indiana Univeristy. Her program will be:
Kyrie, Gott heiliger Geist (BWV 671) – Johann Sebastian Bach
Rhapsody in D flat, Op. 17, No. 1 – Herbert Howells
Variations on a Theme of Clement Jannequin (AWV 99) – Jehan Alain
Prelude and Fugue on the Name of Alain, Op. 7 – Maurice Duruflé

Originally from Lawrence, KS, Katie Burk is an organist, conductor, vocalist, and music educator currently pursuing the MM in Organ Performance at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where she studies with Christopher Young. In 2013, she graduated with BM degrees in organ performance and music education summa cum laude with departmental distinction from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, where she sang in the St. Olaf Choir and studied organ with Catherine Rodland and conducting with Anton Armstrong, Christopher Aspaas, and Timothy Mahr. Currently, she serves as dean of the Bloomington chapter of the American Guild of Organists and as Music Intern at Trinity Episcopal Church in Bloomington, where she accompanies the Trinity Choir under the direction of Marilyn Keiser and organizes the “Evenings at Trinity” liturgy and music series. She also teaches undergraduate music theory and aural skills courses at IU and, for the past three summers, has enjoyed serving on the choral faculty at the Royal School of Church Music in America’s King’s College training course in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

  1. Katie is my granddaughter…..how proud of I am of her! Her twin sister, Maggie, is equally as musically talented and will be pursuing a master’s degree at Yale University this fall. For what more could a grandma ask? Wish I could have attended your program, Katie. Keep up the good work!
