Fall closing recital announced

The lineup for Fall Friday Pipes is still taking shape. The final recital of the year, however, will be on the evening of Wednesday, November 14. David Pickering, Associate Professor of Music and Chair of the Keyboard Division at Kansas State University will be performing. David is an active recitalist, recording artist, scholar and author . His students have excelled in competition and as church organists in a variety of denominational settings. His career as a performer has carried him across the United States as well as to Austria, Canada, and Germany. He has appeared in concert in cities such as Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Kansas City, New York City, Omaha, St. Louis, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, San Francisco, Vienna (Austria), and Washington, D.C.

Pickering’s three solo recordings have focused on the organ music of Daniel E. Gawthrop, Alice Jordan, and Leroy Robertson. His scholarly works are published by the Organ Historical Society Press (The Auditorium Organ) and Wayne Leupold Editions (Leroy Robertson Organ Works), and articles and reviews appear in The American Organist and The Diapason. A proponent for new music, Pickering has premiered new works by Daniel E. Gawthrop and Tyler White.

Pickering completed his degrees from the University of Kansas and Brigham Young University in organ performance and musicology. His teachers include Parley Belnap, James Higdon, J.J. Keeler, and Arlene Small.

This one-hour recital will begin at 6:00pm and is free and open to the public.
